choosing an endurance bike help - disc or Di2 ?

Postby Bennoz » Tue Jul 10, 2018 2:57 pm

Hi All

im looking to upgrade and get an endurance / sprotive frame bike. budget is 3500.

After lots of looking, testing and comparing i was settled on the giant defy adv pro 1 (https://www.giant-bicycles.com/au/defy-advanced-pro-1)

today i notice canyon has a special on the ENDURACE CF 8.0 DI2 and now i cant decide which to get (https://www.canyon.com/en-au/road/endur ... 0-di2.html)

So my Qn: ive not used Di2 before, but my last bike has disc's and they were great - always thought Di2 is out of my price range and overkill for me. Is it worth sacrificing the extra features of the giant for DI2 ?

main differences between the bikes:
Defy:
-carbon wheels, up to 28mm tubeless tyres
-disc brakes

canyon:
-di2
-rim brakes + alloy wheels
-havent test ridden but geometry specs are simillar

I'd pick the brakes.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

As someone who owns di2 and mech shifting disc bikes. I can do without the DI2, I wouldn't trade the discs.

I'd go discs before a Nintendo-drivetrain
Campagnolo for show, SunTour for go

You can always retro-fit Di2 later if/when funds allow but you generally can't retro-fit discs to a non-disc bike.

While I love my Di2 and have found my Mavic's with the exalith brake track stuff to be the best rim brake wheels I've used (road or mtb)...after being caught in a downpour today for like 30min... i'll take discs over Di2.
