Part of the rationale is that bikes depreciate in value, so it's not worth selling them when they get old. Also it can get complicated if you have two spare 10spd chains in your spares. I mean what are you supposed to do with some spare 10spd chains if you no longer have a 10 spd bike?

Just text my wife, telling her I'm looking at a bike after work, and she was like hmmmm, ok.
This will be my 6th, so not as bad as some I'm sure, but doubt I'll be able to go many more without relinquishing some.
