Great Road Bike Rechargeable Front Lights

Postby enduro2 » Mon Nov 12, 2018 10:33 pm

Hi Team,

My excellent 700L front LED light has recently failed after a few years of service. I rode it in all conditions and it had a low IP rating. It was just 2mo out of warranty I might add. I contacted the retailer and the cost of the light was about twice what my return postage would be and they don't think a replacement is high on the agenda.

Anyway, so this leads to be in the purchase of a new LED front light.

I ride in WA winter, in the rain and solo so want to be visible. My old dual LED 700L Lifeline light from Wiggle was brilliant, but the Wiggle branded replacement is only one LED so I am not so sure about the beam spread. The 700L Lifeline has some pretty bad reviews that include that is is not well water resistant and has a poor connection to the bar which can break.

So .... can you advise on a good front light for night/early morning (dark) rides?

Exposure lights are the go - they are expensive, but the expense is well worth it...

have a look at the Cateye 800 volt.
qood reviews.

i picked 1 up recently. very solid construction. aluminum body. light.
a very easy-to-use holder (as compared to my cygolite expilion which has a knurled knob).

can't go wrong with either Exposure or Cygolite too ..

I am enjoying a Raveman PR1200 as reviewed here ......... http://www.bicycles.net.au/2018/08/rave ... in-review/
I bought it from here ..... https://au.lightmalls.com/ravemen-pr120 ... ess-levels . I did worry about the company and whether I would receive the correct light but it was a no fuss transaction. Delivery time was not on a par with most of the online bike shops but I was in no hurry. My light came with a screw clamp mount rather than the rubber band type mount shown in the BNA review.

Glad the review helped. I find myself using the smaller model (CR900) more than the bigger PR1200 on my commutes/early starts.

In my defense, I did point out that the mount for the PR was a screw-type, but that the CR mount fits both lights and I find the band-type more user friendly.

I picked up a Exposure Strada Mk9 Super Light today:

Looks bright and light enough.

Hoping it doesn't bounce around a lot with that apparently tiny front mount it has. I'm sure they have done their testing though.

The Exposure mounting system is rock solid mate - you won't be disappointed.

Hello, I doubt this is what you're looking for, but here's a suggestion anyway. When I updated my riding lights, I also replaced my stem with a Bontrager stem so that I could achieve this (note, that is not me or my bike):

Consists of Bontrager stem, Ion RT 800 light and remote and their Blendr mounting system.

Very tidy and light is very good.

Great price, but you also need to factor in $19.99 for shipping.
I could've been tempted at $25 shipped, but $45 shipped in summer is no good for me.
Also, I bet those units are a few years old already.
