Looks great!

.........have you perhaps got one of the crank, cotter pins in, around the wrong way?

Yup, if cotter pins are not put in from opposing directions the cranks will not line up correctly.
So, when viewed from top with the cranks vertical, the left hand crank has the nut on the pin facing back and the right hand crank has the nut on the pin facing forward.
Doesn't really matter which side faces which way actually as long as they are in opposite directions.
From the pictures your cranks are out of line so the first suggestion is that both pins are in from the same side.
If the pins are in correctly then you may have non-matched cotter pins or you may have to file the cotter pin flats to line them up.
Cheers

Sure does!

Looking at the photo, the crank arms seem just a little out of line with each other. Could be the angle the shot was taken from, but if both cotter pins are inserted in the same direction, this will cause the cranks to look like the arms of a clock, at 5 O'clock. To correct this, remove one of the cotter pins and make sure it is then inserted in the opposite direction, to the pin on the opposing crank arm. The cranks should now be at 6 O'clock :)

....does that make sense?

Woah...beaten to the punch by wyvernRH :)

Makes perfect scenes..i checked it out and you were right. It was about 10 or so degrees out. A little filing and it slipped straight in.
Thank you

Strong candidate for restoration of the year! I can't believe that's the same bike as in the original thread, I would never have thought it would clean up so well, it's absolutely magnificent. Fantastic work reeva :D .

If you don't mind us asking - how much does it cost to get an old frame renickled?

it wasnt cheap... cost me $300.. More for a labour of love than a sound financial decision.

+1, and that sounds like a pretty good deal to me, I know nickel plating isn't as expensive as chrome but a set of cranks and a stem cost me $120.

Also +1
That's a pretty good price for what looks like a good job. A basic good paint job is up there in the $200-250 mark as a starter.
