Ok, so I'm close to either a look 464 or a Dolan df3.

I've only seen the look built up to a pursuit setup. The Dolan has the better fit but all the "forums experts" say that the df3 is a sprinters frame...

If it fits, does it matter that's the Dolan is a sprinters frame? Sorry I don't know much about the track specific geometries.

Cheers

What's the $$$

What do they mean by a sprinters frame? Is it referring to the strength of the frame? If its simply a weight issue then it shouldn't matter as you still need to do 6.8kg despite not having a group set and brakes
If the R-1 rule is broken, what happens to N+1?

Same $$$

Sprinters frame is referring to the strength of the frame, the Dolan is quite a lot heavier too. This is good and bad, you need to get up to speed fast, but for pursuit the heavy bike has more inertia.

Except you are governed by the 6.8kg limit, so a heavier frame will probably fit within 6.8kg anyway

How much are they?

I would say that the built bike would easily be over 6.8kgs!

I would rather not reveal my budget, but let's say a keen budget conscious Internet buyer would find these new frames at a heavily reduced price sitting at around $1k.

Still the same thinking as before. I have settled on a Dolan df3, pick it up on Saturday!

Yep, will do Mike.

Ive got all the parts ready to go, just need some time to build it. It's a track bike, how hard could it be

2 hours to build, half a day to locate and borrow the one tool you don't have

Absolutely photos!

By the way, whilst researching, I found quite a few posts by you on other forums when you were building up your planetx pursuit rig. Still got it?

Yes still have the Planet X. Though the last pursuits I did were on the BT Stealth as I could get lower. On the Planet X I had to resort to an adjustable stem to try and get low enough.

Plan was to keep the Planet X for club racing / training and the BT for bigger events. But I kept grabbing the BT off the rack!

Still need to renew my licence and get back racing. Was off the bikes the last 1 1/2 years to care for my wife as she underwent her cancer treatments. I'm now back commuting but not really motivated for anything.

This is the same problem I have, I've done everything I can to get lower on my current track frame and its still not low enough, the only solution for me is a new frame. dalai, are you in Sydney? I'm wondering if I've raced you?

No Melbourne. I did introduce myself when you came down to Melbourne a while back - Masters Nationals I think it was.

My appologies, must of forgotten while I was looking for my walking stick

I'll be driving near Strawburgers place about 11.30 on Saturday, hopefully he as the frame by then 8)

Since Strawburger has finished with this thread I might as well hijack it.

There's being some rule changes related to the position of the handlebars, does anyone know what they are? Might be to do with the handlebar relationship to the front axle, but I could be wrong.

I'm wondering if I need to consider top tube length from a rule viewpoint

If you have a bt in your stable, I'd be putting the Planet X out to pasture for sure!!!

Mike, change of plans, pick up is late afternoon now. So you may not get to see it tomorrow...

As for rule changes, are they the same rule changes at the road TT bar positions?
