Updates on Springbrook re-opening ?

Postby MichaelB » Sun May 27, 2018 10:51 pm

As the title suggests, any news ?

Was a great ride up there late last year, if not a bit eerie ...

Cheers. Not sure if we are house sitting again at Xmas, and in the end it doesn't matter if it's open or not, as I'll still go.

But just go back a different way than I did.

Looks like I’m back on GC at Xmas for 10 days or so, so looking at doing the usual rides and Springbrook is one of them again.

Is there an easy way to go up Springbrook and down Beechmont ?

Last time I went up Springbrook, I came down along the reservoir, and whilst good, there was plenty of high speed traffic, so wondering if there is a better return route back to GC (Benowa to be specific) ?

Cheers

I tried looking it up on a map, but can’t seem to find the road that you mention. I’ve ridden Pine Creek Rd to get back, but can’t quite see a ‘road’ that appears on a map that would get me to Beechmont.

Using a mobile doesn’t help either !!

Pine creek Rd is the goat track. I'll create a route for you

That’d be great.

When looking at the maps, can find Pine Creek Rd, but it only seems to lead you down to Advancetown lake rather than towards Beechmont, but will also look on a laptop when I get home.

I’d love to hear of any other routes that are good in the area.

I’ll post up some of the routes I did last time. One I enjoyed, but need to refine is one that went into the hills at back of Currumbin and into NSW, but the routing was a bit awkward.

Cheers

Well, heading back up again in Dec for some more house-sitting and hinterland riding

Seems that Springbrook will be open, so will be interesting to ride it with traffic.

Based on this TMR video released early Sep, it'll be done by the time I'm there !!

Can't seem to find anything more recent or confirming when it officially opens.

Yep, saw the latest weather reports. Been a bit wet up there ....

Meanwhile, in Radelaide, we've had a dam bursting 5.2mm. Yep, not even SIX mm

2018 so far hasn't cracked 300mm yet. Been yet another dry year :(

Gold Coast–Springbrook Road
Work is nearing completion on 18 major and 35 minor landslips in the 10-kilometre closed section of road near where Gold Coast–Springbrook Road meets Pine Creek Road. To ensure the repairs can be carried out as safely and quickly as possible, the road will remain closed until most major repair works are complete.

During the works, access to Springbrook will remain via the Pine Creek Road detour (see detour map).

Transport and Main Roads is committed to restoring full access to Gold Coast–Springbrook Road as soon as possible. The road is expected to be reopened on 19 November 2018.

Look like it will open Monday, if it survives this weekend weather event.
