What part of the pump am I missing?

Postby meglio » Thu Aug 30, 2018 2:13 pm

Bought this pump:

But cannot use it. Am I missing any part, or do I need any adapter?

Many thanks

You've got the wrong pump as it is for presta valve only pump.

From the info as stated,
Description
Lezyne Road Drive S
The Lezyne Road Drive is a high pressure hand pump made entirely of aluminum for precise and lightweight construction. The barrel, handle, piston, end caps and pump mount are all custom CNC machined.

The HP design makes this a frame pump replacement, easily inflating tires to riding pressure with fewer strokes. It comes equipped with our ABS Speed Flex Hose, which is a Presta ONLY inflation system. One end of the hose is a threaded Presta valve connection with ABS, while the other side has Lezyne's Slip Fit system for fast valve engagement.
You'd need pumps with presta and shrader like this.
ID please? What ID? My seat tube ID is 27.2mm or 31.6mm depending on what bikes I ride today.thanks...

Isn't that the presta to Schrader adapter in the photo?

That's what I was thinking but the adaptor looked too small, but the adaptor normally has the air bleed with it where this pump has it on the hose.

So I looked it up, is this the correct pump? If so its both presta and schrader

Looks as though there are presta only versions out there

https://www.99bikes.com.au/minipump-lez ... e-lg-white

My Lezyne pumps are both. You just screw the end you don't need into the end of the pump.

both my lezyne is presata only.

one was both presta and schrader, but a work coleague got a presta only and he used schrader valves so I swapped with him.

The extra knob/screw thing is a adapter which allows the black tube to screw into the top of the pump when in storage. One of my pumps have a separate little thing like in the OP photo. On the other pump the thread for that purpose is built into the plastic tube bit.

why? I don't know, maybe at one point the plastic tube in the OP photo had uses on other Lezyne range?

The model that I own is ABS FLEX HOSE. None of the ends fit. Does it mean that my pump is not usable, or can I buy some adapter from them? If so, which one do I need?

P.S. Sorry my questions may seem completely dumb as I'm a newbie to this.
Many thanks for your instant answers!

You need one which has both in the link above which Bunged Knee posted or a replacement hose with both Presta and Schrader - http://www.this link is broken.au/lezyne-replacement-abs-hose/

Get a return for the one you bought and see if you can get the version with both.

Just buy new presta tubes, probably cheaper.

Thanks, good idea. What do "presta" tubes mean?
What will be the difference for me with the tubes I own now?

Scroll down a bit for a pic
https://www.sheldonbrown.com/inner-tubes.html

Nutshelled, you have wide bodied valves and your pump is set up for narrow ones.
You can fit the narrow valves into your rims but there's be a small gap around the valve stem. I have this arrangement on my hardtail MTB. There's adapters available to fill the gap if it worries you or, if you buy Continental tubes, the lock nut supplies has a tapered side which will do the same job.

Hope this helps

As mentioned, take the pump back to the shop and swap it for the correct model which can do schrader valves (or both schrader and presta). Did the shop tell you the pump you bought was for presta valves only?

The issue is, I bought it long time ago (like more than ~1 year ago), but I never used it. I only discovered the issue now when I wanted to use it for the first time. I don't think I qualify for the return.

Re what the sales person told me, hm I can't recall, unfortunately. And I don't think I saved the receipt.

If it's in a new condition, any chances to sell it for a little bit discounted price? If so, where's the best to sell such stuff?

What about a presta to schrader valve adapter, does anyone know if they work in both directions?

Can you buy a replacement tube for the pump that has the schrader adapter?

Hi
I sent this as a PM also but am not sure if it went anywhere as it is still sitting in may Outbox.

How much do you want for the pump, posted to 2400, paid for with Paypal? I have been thinking of getting one of these for a while ...... but internet buying means they are a bit cheaper than the price sticker on your packaging, so what do you think is fair? PM me if you wish ....... or tell me to bugger off ..... :) :)

Just buy a cheapie like this which will work well if you need it out on the road.

https://www.99bikes.com.au/minipump-lez ... ume-silver
or this one if you want the ABS hose
https://www.99bikes.com.au/lezyne-hp-dr ... ck-pump-sm

If you want something to pump up your tyres at home, grab a floor pump, it will make life a lot easier for you.

Will an adapter like this do? It would be the cheapest option indeed.

^^ Yes, it do fit.
But you can make temporary ones. Cut the tip of plastic presta cap and screw it upside down to make it like schrader.

Hmmn, my feeling is that these are designed to allow you to pump up Presta tubes using a Schrader pump.
I'm not sure it is reversible, but could be wrong.
