BBright Servicing
Postby AndrewCowley » Sun Sep 16, 2018 8:36 am
What servicing and maintenance is required for a BBright bottom bracket? Mine is approx 2 years and 3000 km old. Wondering if it needs a service, e.g. open it up, check bearings and regrease etc... ?

They use sealed bearings don't they?
Not much that needs doing IMHO, nor 'can' be done afaik except replacement when they're toast. (I handle 1000s of sealed bearings in another life... both "servicing" old bearings & flushing out factory grease from brand new bearings just to make them "roll faster" temporarily... IMHO neither is useful for BB in long run.)
Are bearings grumbling or rattling in use? Then I'd take off the chain to be able to spin the pedals freely, shouldn't hear any grittiness or dragging - if you can hear anything amplified thru the frame, then yeah time to think of rebuild/replace.
Main exception is if your BB has gotten flooded, either fording a stream or fallen into pothole puddle... then it's good to open BB up & check see if there's no water stuck inside the cavity.
Just my 2c

i have bb30 which is not too dissimilar
all i do for servicing is remove to crank to replenish / clean the grease on the crank axle and the weather seals
current BB is ~ 30000k
