Finished the Project

Postby Jash Rider » Mon Feb 11, 2019 8:36 am

I bought this Trek 810 off gumtree a few years ago. It was perfectly functional though filthy and neglected.

First step was to pull it all apart, clean and reassemble. In that process it got new cables, brake pads and pedals. I then added new stem, Amoeba bars, bar ends, Maxxis Crossmark 2.1’s and a fork off another MTB as the original fork lacked eyelets for a rack. I already had the racks sitting around doing nothing. Got them cheap at a closing down sale.

The Brooks B17 was my birthday present to myself and I’ve now got about 10 hours on it and it’s so comfortable. The whole bike is comfortable. The steel frame is very compliant and forgiving. The position took some sorting but is now spot on for off road touring.

The main purpose of this build is the BVRT. I’ve done one trip on this bike and one on my MTB. While lacking a suspension fork, this bike is the better ride for the BVRT. Planning a week long trip to do the whole thing in both directions in the first week of July.

All up it sits there at less than $400.

Projects are never finished. But you've done well so far...

Cheers,

Yes, never finished. Should probably have said project is now ready.

Well done. I like seeing the older bikes done up.
What fork is that you have put on? Is it 1" or 1 1/4"?

Fork is 1 1/8th threadless. Was less than desirable in appearance so it got a few coats of paint. Bright orange was all I enough of to do the job.

None of those fancy low-rider front racks for you Jash, just put the standard Tioga on back to front. :D

I’m not one for convention. I’ve also got some old downhill bars on there from the 90’s. The idea was to build a tough off road tourer for as less cash as possible. The Brooks saddle kinda ruined that plan, but it’s more than worth it.
