When confronted with having to keep someone alive you will deal with whatever you have available and keep working until the ambo's arrive. This may well be the manual pumping of blood with chest compressions. Whether the heart has stopped or not will probably not come into it and if there is a defibrillator device available, the device will tell you what to do as it monitors the heart

Heart attacks and heart arrests are two different beasts which can cause confusion in a thread and other fornms of discussion. It would have made sense to post these right at the beginning of this thread but here goes, late...
