I just sent an email to Bacchetta. I just went to purchase a Recurve seat through them and thought I was paying the US$250 + $28.19 postage, which converts at todays exchange rate to $296.05 Australian. However the price coming up when it gets to the checkout using their Bongo service which converts the purchase to Australian dollars, the invoice price becomes AU$404.14 . That means a premium of AU$108.09.
Interesting I can get the seat from say Calhoun Cycles for $249.97 + 71.65 US which is ~ $322 Australia, a saving of $80 on Bacchetta themselves as currently quoted.
BTW I have contacted Flying Furniture as well but past emails have been ignored so not holding my breath there.
Regards
Andrew

Can you get one of those places that will buy and forward for you to do the job? There rates seem good enough and as a local buyer they don't cop the "Aus Premium."
There are a number around. I think I even saw one mentioned on BNA recently.

I have used priceusa.com.au and they have been very good. Quick, helpful, reliable and good prices.
Note though that if you want something that's worth more than about US$200 then most reshippers will not post it because of the value but want to use a courier so much money.
If you are willing to risk post and priceusa can't help, you can try http://www.shipito.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; who don't seem to care. Haven't used them myself but they were recommended to me as cheap for expensive but light things.

I have had an update from Jeremy at Bacchetta ...
Hi Andrew:
Can you tell me if that additional $120 is just exchange, or is that the landed cost after paying taxes and clearance fees?
This is a new system, so I am just a bit unsure as to what you are being charged for.
Any info you could provide would help.
As an alternative, you could order direct from us. I could ship via us mail, which may be around $50 or so. Whatever rate your credit card company charges would be what you pay for exchange.
Let me know what you would like to do.
thanks
Jeremy
Looking like it may get sorted.
Andrew

The business that Bacchetta is using is one of those on-forwarding business. In this case they are using Bongo International. As I understand it Bacchetta effectively sell the goods to Bongo International who then sell them to the Bacchetta customer and ship them, all for a fee. Bongo International does not have the best reputation for fair shipping charges going by various reports around the place.John Lewis wrote:Can you get one of those places that will buy and forward for you to do the job? Thanks zebee, but it looks like Bacchetta will ship to me directly now which is what they used to do.zebee wrote:I have used priceusa.com.au and they have been very good. Quick, helpful, reliable and good prices.

I simply sent an email to Bacchetta. I just went to buy a Recurve seat through them and thought I was paying the US$250 + $28.19 postage, which changes over at todays swapping scale to $296.05 Australian. Anyway the value coming up when it finds a workable pace utilizing their Bongo administration which changes over the buy to Australian dollars, the receipt cost becomes AU$404.14 . That implies a premium of AU$108.09.
Intriguing I can get the seat from state Calhoun Cycles for $249.97 + 71.65 US which is ~ $322 Australia, a sparing of $80 on Bacchetta themselves as at present cited.
However i have calculated many other site's rate and you can also calculate from these website. https://splicepackages.com/#shipping https://www.msc.com/ https://wcscargo.com/ https://avionxpress.com/ http://argents.com/
