Camping shows not for all camping

Postby brumby33 » Thu Apr 21, 2022 5:06 am

This is probably the 6th camping and caravan show I've been to in Sydney and every year I try and have a look at what could be aimed at the hiker and biker market and the answer would be bugger all.
Apart from swags nothing there would go good for the bicycle and even motorcycle touring market except maybe the OZtent Malamoo https://www.anacondastores.com/camping- ... hAAdhfoEHg
But at 5kg packed, I wouldn't cart it around on a bicycle, motorcycle maybe.

I know these shows are aimed at the 4x4 crowd as everything is 4x4 orientated, even about 85% of the campers and caravans have the outback style and high clearances but It'd be good to see more lighter camping gear in one place to check out rather than going to individual stores.

Perhaps the cost of a display area is not worth it for them.

You can easily see what age group they aim these shows at, the middle age and retirement set,(like me but with more money lol) quite a few bikes displayed, all e-bikes and e-bike carriers/hitches and what-not.

If they're going to have a camping show, it should cater for all types of camping. There's a lot of people who enjoy hiking and biking but nothing there for them.

There was a fair bit there for the chuck a tent, a few chairs and a portable fridge in the back of the car type camping, that could be done in just about any car with the back seats folded down.

The Hiker and biker market is still very specialised despite a lot of different styles and price points but then, would it warrant it's own show?
