Road Cycling Margrate River (near Boranup Gallery)

Are there any nice 40km / 50km routes around there?
I don’t have strava and can’t see any on Komoot?

Is it safe to cycle on Caves road?

The locals will be able to give better advice than me, but I was in the area over Christmas and it would be a magic place to ride.

The downside is most of the roads have little to no shoulder - peak tourist season would be hairy. Caves Rd in particular didn't appear to be cyclist friendly, although I did see one or two brave souls risking it.

I'd still like to be there with a bike, though. There's enough back roads to find some peace and quiet!

Yeah , we are finally down there for a reasonable period.
So figured I am up at 5am so get a few rides in before the family wakes.

Was thinking Boranup to Hamlin Bay, but cant remember how hilly it is

Not to keen on cycling down bussleton highway either.

OKay Life Cycle Bikes in Margret River has said there ae much better roads to ride on than Caves road.
So i will pop by them and get a route.

Caves road is lovely but (statistically) quite dangerous in a car. And one would need to be brave to ride a bike on it even in the middle of the week on a school day (never mind when clogged with distracted tourists)

Unfortunately this is typical of WA country roads where zero thought has gone into anything other than trucks and cars.

A few councils have added separated infrastructure (including Margs) but it’s mostly (correctly) targeted at school kids and shoppers.

I know you said you don't have it, but I put "Margaret river" into strava routes just to have a look. it came up with 3 routes.
I pay for access however, I am unsure what you get for free. Wouldn't be surprised if it is nothing.
Asking at the LBS seems like a good move

Sums up much of central Vic too. Gravel gives many more safe routes.
