OK, so now the new super commuter is almost ready, and it's time to go Mudguard shopping. I tellya, pickings of suitable candidates are slim as, especially in Aus.

My go to brand has been SKS, and have found these SKS Bluemels STYLE in 46mm width to be the ones I reckon look the goods and come in the right size, BUT

Only suppliers that I can find are R2Bike and Bike24 - they are A$98 and A$113 respectively landed in Radelaide. Particularly like these due to the stay attachment at the mudguard and flexible/long mudflap.

Before I plunge and order them, and other alternatives ?

Have a look here - I rate Planet Bike muddies pretty well - think they are better than my longboards.

https://www.ebay.com.au/str/bicyclegear ... 3561.l2563

Bought a pump and a PDW Dios Thronous saddle which I have "always" wanted for this ss bike when it was mainly used as the commuter but never got around to picking one up - quite like the coral colour...feel good on the road and dirt so now think I should get another green one to share around my red bikes.
Will be buying some Planet Bike muddies from them for the daughters commuter once I work out what size best suits her bike.
Oh and recommend because this lot had super speedy delivery so five stars for that and the prices. They may have something that suits??

Cheers, some options, but too narrow.

Thanks

I like velo orange. Solidly made, not too heavy, come in a good range of widths and styles that look good on most bikes. However, very expensive, around $200 delivered.

Specialised dry tech is another interesting one. Out of all the fenders I have used, they seem to be the best at stopping spray. They seem to live up to the hype about being developed in a wind tunnel. However, the stay mounting system is a bit finicky. Also quite expensive.

I have also had SKS, personally didn't rate them. I found the mountings were a bit flimsy, if I laid the bike down in the back of my car, I had to be really careful, always seemed to be getting bent etc.

I had SKS on my flat bar for maybe 30,000KMs and they were fine.

I haven't put mudguards on the new titanium bike but I bought some Velo Orange and they are nice, will use them on the other bike if not on the new bike.

Mudguards are great, but I figure I can live with mudguards on only 1 of the bikes.

Velo Orange, even with Spring 30% discount are A$180 delivered (but noice)

SpecialiZed ones are $150, but only available in 52mm and not local.

SKS are looking best option atm, and agree that the Chromoplastic stay installation is as fiddly and orrible, but the system on the Edge ones I’m favouring is neater and better

Jinxed myself talking about my experience with mudguards

My specialised dry tech guards have done 16k on my gravel bike, which doubles as a touring bike, without a hint of a problem. Today I was riding and came upon a diabolically washboarded bit of gravel road that was almost unrideable. After a couple of km I heard a loud clunk, and then rattle from the rear. The guard fractured at the point where it screws into the bridge. Obviously a weak point for any guard, but this must have gotten fatigued and let go.

So that guard is now in a skip bin I found on the side of the road  I think I will probably replace them with velo orange, which have been very good on my commuter type bike.

The SKS mounting can be fiddle, although I just cut the tops off the little black things on the mudguard and poke the stay through them rather than cutting the stay. Doesn't look great but worked fine on the flat bar, you might want something a bit neater on a nice carbon bike.

Yeah, the Velo Orange are very nice but not cheap.

I've tried quite a few over the years and now use a set of these Bontrager mudguards and find the adjustment of them excellent, highly recommend https://www.trekbikes.com/au/en_AU/equi ... Code=black

They look OK, but the length adjustment whilst good is bulky, but key issue is that the wider ones are not in stock. :(

My SKS Bluemels STYLE in 46mm width are on their way to Aus, so will post some pics and info on how they go.

Was debating whether to go the 56mm wide versions, but opted for the 46mm
