Hey guys,
Shopping around for a wheelset, got a quote for custom wheelset built by Melody Wheels in East Fremantle.
Price seems reasonable, includes lifetime free truing and spoke replacement and the spec sounds suitable. Email reply was prompt too so he's ticking all the boxes so far.
Has anyone here had wheels built by Adrian? Any feedback?

don't know about Melody but I had a set of H+son TB14s built by Matt at Spoked.
Very happy with the build and after about 3 years they are still running well.

I contacted Matt initially as I had heard good things about his work previously, but he is apparently taking some time off for personal reasons.

Adrian is ex Sydney. He is also actively involved with the Fremantle Bicycle User Group. Worth giving him a go I reckon His Facebook page is https://www.facebook.com/melodywheels" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Why 'Melody', I wonder...
Can you play the spokes like a harp?
Do the bearings start to sing after a while?

Yes, it is called melody as an allusion to the harp and possibly the fact that I'm a bit old fashion when it comes to wheels. Many wheel builder pluck spokes as a quick way to gauge spoke tension and adjust accordingly. Some even claim to proclaim to build their wheels acoustically https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9YizrSCNVRQ" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I only use sound in the early stages of building tension into a wheel. Once I've got around 70% of tension, I'll then use a tensiometer.
For those who are wondering, I've fairly new to the WA biking world so you've probably never heard of me. I moved to Fremantle 4 months ago to be closer to my partners family when we had our first child.

I can vouch for Melody Wheels - Adrian fitted my dynamo hub and did a great job of it.
Higher spec spokes fitted too.

Cheers,

Time to resurrect this thread as Adrian has just rebuilt a wheel for me, one that he built up at least six years ago. It had given great service but I’d finally worn out the brake track.
Once again, a beautifully built wheel and I will be back once I wear this one out

Good move, there’s none better than Adrian. Technically brilliant, great customer service, fair prices and a pretty amazing person as well. I would never go anywhere else.

I've appreciated Adrian's advice when I had to rebuild the wheel on my partner's ebike, as the spokes kept breaking. He threw in some spoke washers for free, and the wheel has been trouble free using his quality spokes.
