Garmin Edge Maintenance
Postby grt046 » Sat Oct 28, 2023 12:25 pm
The two top rubber buttons have failed and as such the unit while sort of operational is no longer waterproof. In addition the battery charge life has deteriorated with a struggle to manage 4 hrs use
Can this maintenance be provided at a reasonable cost or is it better to bin it and replace with a new 540.
I have emailed Garmin and am waiting a response

A friend replaced battery in Garmin 800 and it was not too hard.

Thanks for that. I will give the button fix hack a go first and see how things turn out. Can live with the battery for the time beingwarthog1 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 28, 2023 1:12 pmDon't know if YouTube may have some helpful suggestions?

Further to the above my eagle eyed wife found the missing rubber button thing on the driveway and it is now back in place sealed with a bit of electrical tape. Works like a new one and looks the goods .... not sure how long it will last though.

Send them old one and they send you a refurbished one, at a good price.
Ask them to price a refurb for you

After much back and forth and some very poor service, I finally settled on replacing the 520 with a refurbished 530. All up it probably cost me around $200 including the postage to Garmin? Their instructions on the posting of the return unit were sub par too - if you do go down that route, wait for an email with the details, including the case number for the return address.

Totally painless experience.
Mail instructions were quite clear?

The instructions that I received at the end of the refurb unit purchase had an address the send it to, but didn't include the reference number. It wasn't until I got the email that I actually had anything to include that identified the return as being from me (the Attn: Return # line).Arbuckle23 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 30, 2023 6:34 amJust got a refurb 1030 in the last couple of weeks.

Their initial offer was for a flat 20% discount in their (full RRP) store. I refused this as manifestly inadequate, which is when I got the counter offer of a refurbed 530 for $185.

Wondering who you guys contacted for these refurbished units.grt046 wrote: Well Garmin were quick to respond. $224.50 for a refurbished 520 plus.

I have an older Edge 520 with declining battery life and an even older 800 with similar battery issues.
Do they offer refurb replacements on outdated model lines? I bought the 800 12 years ago.

Gamin acknowledged receipt of my defective unit on 3/11 and refurbished unit received 7/11. Happy with that.
Unfortunately I am temporally off the bike for medical reasons so haven't been able to use it
