Can You Identify this Seatpost?

Postby WyvernRH » Fri Apr 26, 2024 2:57 pm

I pulled this seatpost from a Tange plain gauge early1990's (maybe) Protour track bike (decalled up as a Dick Tresidder) which had the worst case of sunburnt paint I have ever seen. Originally, I thought the seatpost was sunburnt as well but when I pulled it and cleaned it up the pattern went all the way down. Only markings on it are the words 'Max Height' and appropriate dashes near the bottom.

I've never seen anything like it, can anyone identify the brand for me?

The rest of the kit was high quality stuff (Cinelli bars/stem, Suzue track hubs on Wolber rims etc) so I suppose this might be too but it looks weird....

Could be a Gipiemme: https://velobase.com/ViewComponent.aspx ... 5&AbsPos=0

Catalog link (Cod. 822): https://www.disraeligears.co.uk/site/is ... age_8.html

Gipiemme didn't make anything themselves, so it may have been a re-badged Sakae Ringyo Laprade 'Tall Cool One':

There's also this SR post listed as a 'Royal', looks similar: https://bankruptbikeparts.co.uk/product ... -300mm-nos

Can't find anything with that smokey finish though.

Also looks same or similar to the Japanese brand “Strong” : seems to have rather less than the usual amount of setback

Hmm, thanks both for the good suggestions, I'll just have to keep looking.

I was thinking that maybe this 'ripple' effect was meant to match the 'smokey' finishes that some frames came in about that time and hoping someone would say something like 'of course, that was part of the kit on a 1992 Centurion Sprint!'. Optimistic, I know....
