Cavendish Is Past His Prime

Well, I'm looking forward to watching Cavendish race the TDF. A lot actually. Unless Pogacar wins the Giro by a mile and is looking just as good early stages in the TDF, what else is there? The Danish Froomay won't be there. Watching Roglic is like watching a glacier....steady, steady, oops, broke off at the end....Sky is still bringing Thomas out to play. Jay Vine is now a super dom for Pogacar. At least the Cavendish show provides entertainment one way or the other.

If it's looking like a clear win from Pog, I'll probably get some sleep and save myself for the Femmes edition. I want to see if this year the Peloton lets a solo break go up the road every stage!

It will be a miracle if Cav gets a stage win at the TdF.
But I hope that he does.
And I hope that there are NO high-speed crashes.

In my opinion, the number of serious crashes in top level Pro cycling in recent years is unacceptable.

And perhaps the UCI should start with a ban on the current fashion for narrow handlebars.
Any technical change like that, that enables riders to go a bit faster AND with bit less control should come under close scrutiny by the UCI

The whole problem with the crashes is due too everyone pushing harder and faster for that edge on the rest and partly riding above their own abilities.

Yeah, I saw that but only 1000mts of climbing and the 2nd day. He has to string 3wks together and he was whinging not long ago about the TDF this year is to hard for the "sprinters", well he should have retired last year then.

Wasn't too bad as far as his line goes. He had to get past his last lead out man.

He only went from about 200mtr to go but his leed out train was the difference. Yes he can still snag a win on pretty flat stages but lets see how he goes with the real tuff stages where there's 2000mtrs of climbing and at greater inclinds. There was only 1000 mtrs in that stage.

Yeah the whinging poms are trying to score points but they can't string a decent argument between them to worry me.

Well ya better have a look at some history books and besides that, the banana man has never won the TDF outright, unlike the bloke that he's trying to beat.

Yep he has had to take all of those stages in bunch sprints. No solos, no climbs, no tts. Sprints. You could say he has done quite well at it. Matter of fact, nobody has done better.

You missed the opportunity to include Merckx has 3 Green Jerseys to go with his 5 yellow ones.

There's just no comparison though - Cavendish is a much better sprinter than Merckx ever was

I've never said he wasn't a good sprinter, even though he doesn't know what a straight line is. I just believe he is past it for the TDF and should have stuck to his word about retirement. Is he going to say I'm coming back again next year if he crashes again?

Merckx also rode 3-4 times as many races a year, were as banana boy is/was lucky if he rode 20.
