The Boom lift has been sitting in the same position for the last 2-3 weeks.
Tender process could take months!

Had a quick look at Tenders WA and there doesn't seem to be any tenders open related to the Arena (or any recently signed contracts) so it looks like a minimum of 2 weeks (and more likely 4 or more) before they even get responses for any tender process, let alone complete the evaluation and nominate a preferred tenderer.

Quite possibly on a standdown rate (if you don't use, you don't pay.)

The recent BWA email seems to hint the path may never re-open
As a safety precaution venue management have closed access to the northern corridor of land adjacent to the railway line while maintenance is undertaken internally and externally at height. Riders are required to use the PSP on the western side of the Arena. It is not clear when (or if) the rear access will be re-opened due to other construction works.

Every time they close the path behind the Arena, I get worried that someone is going to break a leg on those sharp white steel fences/railings at the two staircases on the corner of Wellington/Freeway.

Event management need to take the path closure into consideration during major events....pain in the ass trying to ride through when you have several thousand people in panic mode trying to get into the Arena.

and there are now a heap of anti-terrorism bollards marking the boundary of the Arena and the road reserve which will make it interesting once (if?) the rear path re-opens. More obstacles added to the mix.

I'm amazed I haven't seen a serious accident in front of the arena, especially near that stupid white stair railing that hangs over the path where cyclists need to negotiate the blind corner. A whole lot of traffic squeezing through a very small area.

Especially given that most of the pedestrians refuse to keep left as they're heading west.

That's because they don't have to. In WA the Road Traffic Code 2000 removed the obligation for pedestrians to keep left on a shared path. This was to avoid conflict with the regulation requiring pedestrians to walk on the RHS, facing oncoming traffic, when walking on the road.
Please don't expect pedestrians to keep left, they don't have to.

Regardless of legal obligation, the lack of keeping left at that corner does create a safety issue. Somebody is going to break a leg on those railings the protrude onto the path.

is the Arena falling apart - has this actually been suggested? reason I ask is I checked out some of the expressed joint interior lining when I went to a concert. Was not the usual standard of material spec (opinion). So wonder what standard of exposed exterior cladding may be.

The very rapid closure of the path followed by a
looooong[/i ]period before any actual work happened suggests that there was an OMGosh moment regarding potential risk to the public from bits falling of the building.
The failure to reopen the path in the absence of any works suggests one of two things:
either
a ) the problems are much, much bigger than initially anticipated
or
b ) someone at the Perth Arena doesn't like cyclists riding across the shared space to access the bike path.
