Bikes in the Media

Postby P!N20 » Wed Jul 14, 2021 4:09 pm

I often come across articles about bikes or ads with bikes in them that probably don't warrant their own thread, but hold some level of interest to the everyday bike geek. As the title suggests, this thread is for bikes in the media.

Let's start with Richard Branson, who apparently didn't ride his bike to his recent space flight :o

This ad for a superannuation company got a fair flogging on commercial TV a few months back. The highlight is the dude on the vintage Le Jeune:

Can't find a link to the video, but Michael Portillo takes a tumble at Herne Hill Velodrome on the Great British Railway Journeys TV show:

That was also in the last minute or so of The Cheap Seats (Channel 10) last night (Sep 14). He was stopped but then his feet got stuck in the clips.

You know it's a decent frame because of the rainbow stripes.

Yeah that's where I saw it (it's actually from 2018.)

Looked like he was holding on to the rail with his right hand, then the other dude came over to shake his hand and he just let go! Not sure Michael's slippers are UCI approved.

Additionally, the person standing there cleaning it (with the spray bottle in hand) and arm through the door is about to be dragged along violently by this behemoth, right? ;)

They’ve managed to bring it to a stop in the nick of time.

Maybe not bikes "in the media" but any bike is a much better bike with Nitto bits on it - personally I use cromo and alloy Nitto handlebars, crmo and alloy stems and alloy seatposts. Nitto Technomic stems (the long ones) and the old quill XC Pro stems they made for Suntour - are just art.
Have used Nitto front and rear racks years ago and still have them but now hard to get them to fit my current bikes. :-(
Anyway, this is well worth a watch and please buy more Nitto stuff, we need these sort of companies to keep making real bike stuff.

And....Nitto part 2 - maybe even better if you like to know about who they have made bits for and out of what materials
Do like the comments about making parts and frames in Ti

A timely post for me. At the moment my lounge room has a tent set up, sleeping bag draped over the couch and assorted camp gear sprawled out everywhere.
The old Vivente tourer is out, chain oiled, nuts and bolts checked and tightened, tires pumped, panniers fitted.
I'm off on an overnighter next week up the East Gippsland Rail Trail. Fun, fun, fun.

Yeah, the bloke at the side is NOT cleaning it as suggested by g-boaf. He is actually hanging onto the tram and digging his heels in. What a hero!
