Just over 60km/h in fact.

Apparently he used a 64-15 gear, which is about 112 Gear inches. That works out to an average cadence of 112.

Presumably Ganna is booking his plane tickets now.

Cheers,

Cameron

Funny, I went to a gear calculator to work out cadence at speed, and just clicked the 'GI' button to come up with 112", yet the good old manual calculator gives 115". Apparently the online calculator has smaller wheels...

Cheers,

Cameron

He doesn't need them to do much, even though these are the Juniors, they are not much slower than the open.

I heard 65-14 which is 122.
His cadence would have been 104 which is the number I use to work out pursuit schedules and lap times. 104 to 106 is optimum real time cadence for pursuiting, no matter what people say on paper, bandying around numbers up to 120, which are simply unsustainable.
I know masters rider who pursuit on 108, 110 gear inches so there is no way 112 would work. 122 would be right.

122 gear inches at cadence 104 (laps 1 and 2 would have been higher, around 110) makes just over 60 kph average.

Yep high cadence in a Pursuit is not a good idea. Between the 100 and 110 and ya cookin with gas I recon. You need to be in the hurt locker but at that point where you know ya hurtin but you can sustain it for longer periods.

There are plenty of sites stating 64-15
Cheers mate, thanks for that.
So thats 112, a relatively small gear for such a world record.
That would make the cadence at around 112 ...would love to see the lap splits and the data. Hopefully it will come out eventually.
Usually the early laps are above optimal cadence, using the standing start to wind up to around 115 and then gradually dropping cadence until you hit the sweet spot on lap 3, which is usually 106 or so ...in Lambie's case it seems to be slightly higher. I guess they did a lot of testing and worked out the sweet cadence. I have no idea whether altitude affects cadence at all...
Either way those lap speeds (14.6 seconds) are quite incredible, as anyone who has ridden on a track would know. Most mortals wouldnt be able to do one lap at that speed.

Didn't Charlie's Angels have to ride at over 120rpm? They had to do it for a lot longer than 4 minutes too. :D

I used to be a high cadence rider to cover for my lack of brute force. Alas since the Ti upgrades I can't sit still on the bike and even 100 is a struggle for even a short time. The lack of power hasn't improved.

Cheers,

Cameron

Back in the day :)
Team pursuit always have higher cadence than IP anyway.

Interesting how things have changed in sprinting and pursuiting in regard to gear size and cadence.

In the 1950s, Coppi et al were winning the 5000 metre world title in about 6 minutes 30 on a 90 inch gear.
Thats an average speed of about 48 kph, cadence somewhere around 113-115
