Gravel bike PM

Anybody have one?
I wouldn't mind one but would prefer a chainset spider based one to reduce the risk of rock strike.

It is complicated however by the gravel bike needing a 47mm chainline for the 2x GRX gearing I run.

I asked the question on the WW forum.

More than I would like to spend.

A chainset with a 47mm chainline is required for me to bolt a spider based pm on it.
Anyone done something similar or have any ideas for a suitable chainset?

Been lacking km on the gravel bike this year, but riding this week (and determined to do more) and thinking I really need one when doing a couple of big climbs.
Was thinking a single sided crank based might do the job.

I've got one of them on a Shimano r7000 L crank arm.
It is consistent, but consistently low compared to other PMs.

I had a Stages crank arm one on the MonsterCross that I had for a while and had no issues with it.

I didn't notice if it read low compared to the P2M that I had on the roadie, but the riding is different, so it didn't really matter.

Ended up getting garmin vector 3 refurbished pedals from pbk and rally xc spd pedal bodies from pushys. Very happy, going well

I was looking at the Sigeyi spider-based PMs, but elected to go with pedal-based systems for my XC bike and wet weather commuter-come-gravel bike. Let me walk you through why.

A good PM is a non-trivial investment and something you will want to move forward from bike to bike. The problem is manufacturers all seem to have their own standards for chain lines and bottom brackets, and even the chainring hole count and placement varies with each successive groupset iteration.

I've been running Power2Max crank-based power meters since 2014 and am very impressed with their ruggedness and reliability, and their warranty support. I had been keeping a second unit that I bought while the warranty issue was being sorted aside for a planned wet weather commuter / gravel bike.

That project didn't materialise until earlier this year. The crankset (Rotor 3D+) was nominally compatible with the BB386 Evo standard, and when I bought the Jamis Supernova I thought it would be a drop-in fit.

Nuh-uh. Unfortunately, unlike most other manufactures, the downtube comes all the way out to the edge of the BB, so the inside face of the PM spider rubs on the frame.

So I ended up buying a set of Wahoo PowrLink pedals for that bike (which have their own issues due to poor pedal body design that I will be raising with ACCC as a possible product safety recall) and a set of Garmin XC200 pedals for the XC bike.

One of the P2M meters did make a successful transition to the new Cannondale, but getting 5x110BCD chainrings in decent quality was not straightforward.

Pedals are much easier to move from bike to bike.

I didn't see your earlier post, but I swapped out the Road p2max spider I had on my gravel bike and went to the p2max gravel (p2max edition, which was a bit cheaper). I am pretty happy with that as I also switched from the Road Ultegra groupset and moved over to GRX-800 at the same time. When I got my gravel bike, Shimano had not released GRX yet. The difference is pretty amazing, but what I like about the p2max is the one piece double chainring. Yes, it was a pricey option. I have run p2max power meters on all my bikes for a number of years and can't fault them. I actually have four of them (one is sitting in a bag, having come off the gravel bike). I have an old SRM PM-6 on my Zwift bike attached to the trainer. I wasn't able to sell that cheaply even with a brand new battery so I just hung onto it.

Price will be closer to $1000 when they hit Australia. Still a lot cheaper than Garmin's dual sided Mtb pedals which are over $1700.

Opened it in google and it appears a pair of pedals at that price . Duckduck wouldnt translate perhaps because I didn't allow all cookies. Dunno I am an IT dunce.

Seems like a great price and they look good. I'd be after a pain if I didn't have vector 3.
Tbh as a side issue I'm not seeinb any downsides to spd compared to spd sl apart from a slight weight penalty. No hotspot, hang on well, easy to clip in and out and easier to walk in.

Yep, they look fantastic. Will consider a single sided pair when they actually get stock again.

At least the Garmin pedals I have on my road bike show I have a perfect 50:50 balance so I only have to buy one sided now!

I saw there was a comparo. I am guessing the assiomas. Will have to give it a look.
Losing that plastic bulge from the spindle is a big positive it appears.

Edit. Yep had a look. The sprint cadence drop outs he was experiencing I haven't encountered. I can sprint at over 1000watts but no longer race so don't ever do them as they are not something I need to train for as an ageing never was. I will have to give it a go and see what it records. Other than that, my 2 sets of vector 3s just keep rolling on. I am a fan of the replacement battery system too. Great life and a stack of cr1/3n in my drawer off ebay. No need to have the bike near a power supply to charge anything in the shed. No di2 yet either.

Yep were I buying new at normal retail price the assiomas would be the choice for sure.
