After many months of trawling many threads, I've been trying to find a photo thread of Malvern Star Roadsters from the forties showing bikes in their original as factory condition...
I can find various pictures of rusty weathered steeds and a few illustrated advertisements of the approximate time, lots of dead links, hijacked text heavy threads and missing photos, but am surprised I cant find a year by year "Here's how they looked" thread.
I'm involved in other forums for motorcycles and this type of thread is very useful for restorers
Any interest in starting a detailed photo list here of bikes for people not steeped in knowledge on period correct components and finish?
Hope some photos pop up
Cheers

In addition for people not savvy uploading images to forums.
The easiest way currently is to start a Flickr account. It is free.
Step 1.
Upload your photos there.
It is very easy website to navigate with a button that says upload photos. It's literally all the site does.
Step 2.
When you want to upload a photo here, click your photo on Flickr.
In the bottom right corner is a right pointing arrow, it is the share button.
Clicking it will display the link to the photo.
Copy and paste the link on its own in to your post here.
The photo will show up with your message.

Here is my 1946 Melbourne made Two Star Malvern Star.
During the 1950s it had a drum brake fitted to the front wheel and a Sturmey Archer AW 3 speed fitted to the back, but other than that it is all original including the rims.
So at the moment it only has drum brakes on the front and no brakes on the back and as I live in the hills I would need a death wish to ride it like that. I plan to fit a period correct Sturmey Archer AB 3 speed drum brake to the rear eventually.
I need to have work done on the front forks as the thread is damaged and the top tube is bent, that will be a job for the new year.

Both the front and rear rims are original, but I do agree a 40H painted Westwood rim that still retains most of it's original paint, is not oval, rusted and no flat spots is a rare beast. The person I bought it off did have both wheels respoked a couple of years back. The front drum still has asbestos pads in it, so at some point in the future I will take it off to a brake relining specialist and have the asbestos pads removed and modern braking material bonded to the break shoes. Saves me from worrying about asbestos and modern brake pad compound gives more grip than asbestos pads so will also give me a marginal improvement on the braking.
