I like how they've designed it so pedestrians won't want to walk the bike lanes, and bikes won't want to stray into the pedestrian lanes.
The pedestrian section is coated with blue rubber to make it more comfortable for walkers (and, incidentally, less efficient for bikes).

They had to make the tunnel anyway, as an escape route for the light rail line. Why aren't there more of these?

It is only one conservative (L-NP) government at the moment isn't it?!
We are getting active pathway as part of light rail thru Parramatta and other extensions in that area. And hopefully Harbour bridge ramp. Slow progess but at least some progress.

Oh, that's interesting - where does that go? Welcome improvement.

I hope eventually the path all the way through to Circular Quay ends up getting built, but it looks like it'll remain on PDF only.

However I was recently reading about a small intersection in Brisbane undergoing a minor upgrade - couple of turning lanes and traffic lights (no bike infrastructure of course).

$15 million.

A shame the same standards aren't applied to scrutinising road upgrades.

I love cycling. I am just over the bogan Australian culture. We are a disgrace and an embarrassment in so many ways. Attitudes to cycling is one.

Gravel has improved things markedly for me. Almost no traffic, so consequently no arrogant, ignorant d'heads to spoil things. So much better.

that was my understanding so is it truly "cycling infrastructure" ? or just a thoughtful modification of other transport infrastructure

here in Melbourne we are getting new "cycling infrastructure" on (in my opinion) quite a scale...like this tunnel its comes with other major transport projects: Level crossing removals, Westgate "tunnel", North East link...many km of new hopefully not substandard shared use paths with the cost disappearing as a fraction of the budgets and no complaints as no one would know unless you are a cyclist...but still only a fraction of the road network and maybe not were it is most needed

Yes Other Countries can do it too, even those Countries that are still referred to as developing Countries.....like South Korea

Both great ideas and with electric bikes soon to become the normal way to ride, it stands to reason why these should be developed a lot more. Along the concept of if we build it, they will come, if people see a viable alternative to driving to work, they will change even if their mind is the opposite at first.
