2023 TdF

Postby MichaelB » Fri Jun 02, 2023 3:45 pm

Whilst the TdF is still around the corner, the Giro is now done and the Dauphine is this weekend.

Here is a link to the stage profiles and summary - some cracker stages, hopefully the weather is better than the Giro !

Not sure it would be too hard to get better weather than the Giro. Had a friend in Italy at the same time who said it was downright miserable. Hopefully a good little preview for the Tour.

I follow Ben O'Connor on Strava and he is looking strong. Hoping for a good result for him.

Big race alright.

Carapaz will be riding for EFeducation.. He's an ambitious guy, will want to do some damage at least.

Adam Yates riding for Pogacar should help him from getting worked over a bit.

Caleb Ewan will be there. Come on matey :)

And will the Rog turn up?! , even if it's just to bait the other #1s and support Jonas again.

He is looking like he is going to be very hard to beat.
TTed well and dropped everyone on the final climb.
Anybody who is going to climb with him, or out climb him, will need to be their lightest.

JV did well, but he did not look as dominant as expected given the competition. I thought he would put more time into some of the less specialized GC guys and the summit finish gaps were not huge. I think he is in a good place, but he did not seem to be dominate like Pogacar was early in the season. Of course who knows what form he will be in after his injury recovery. It does seem likely to be a race of two levels. With Pogacar and JV racing for 1st, and the rest racing for 3rd (until someone gets covid or crashes).

Having a look at the route, my lord these stages are mental. Stage 17 "Only 166km but with 5,100m of climbing..."

I watched a few episodes of that TDF show on Netflix last night, and saw the one that concentrated on the French teams, and O'Conner by extension. He wasn't really on board with his Directeur there after his injury  .

Cracker of a 1st stage.

Won’t post any spoilers.

The bad news though is that Mas & Carapaz out due to crash injuries. Bugger

Nice finish. :)
I wonder if Simon gifted the stage to his brother. It's Adam's first grand Tour stage win I think.

Was going to watch the 1 hour highlights on SBS on Demand this afternoon, I can't find anything. Only options to stream future stages :?:

They have the highlights twice during the day (1 hour). I record the live stage and the highlights via Fetch

There's a 30 and 60 min highlight option if you use sbs tour tracker app.

Tough start to le Tour - shame that O'Connor's GC ambitions have slipped away in just 3 stages

It’s been noted that he’s more of a long steady climb guy.

There is still plenty of stages left !

Mind you, agree that starting behind isn’t great

Anyone notice all the SBS presenters are all wearing Rapha tops.

Subtle sponsorship?

Another great sprint finish, but find it interesting that despite being a ‘safer’ final 3km, there were more crashes ….

Looking fwd to the next stage where there will be some racing DURING the stage
