Schwalbe Marathon Plus Smartguard 26x2.25 worn after 3000 kilometres on custom build E-Bike

Postby E-Commuter » Sun Sep 24, 2023 10:18 am

My rear tyre is warn and now showing the blue smartguard after 3000 kilometres. The front tyre is still good probably has another 5,000K's. The tyre I have fitted is Schwalbe 26" x 2.25 Marathon Plus Smartguard MTB with tread pattern 54-559

I am looking to replace it with https://www.pushys.com.au/schwalbe-mara ... -tyre.html

Schwalbe's Addix E is supposed to be designed specifically for e-bikes. Has anyone tried this tyre before?

My current setup is:

Schwinn Dual Suspension 26" MTB 24 Speed.

Motor: Rear hub 1500W

Battery: 2 x 48V 20000 mAH

Bike weight: 22 kg

Rider weight: 100 kg

Max travel distance 100 kilometres.

more power = less tyre life

just to let you know that australian laws, except for nsw, allow a max of 250w pedal assist. i think nsw is 350w. either way, if you are using that on public property you are up for a world of hurt
- unregistered
- unlicensed
- unroadworthy
- not wearing a helmet (if you aren't wearing a motorbike helmet)

they may get you for speeding too.
backing off the power will increase the tyre life also. i wish you luck

You sound like one of them cyclists who get upset when I whiz past them at 60 K's :)

because being passed by an unregistered uninsured motorcycle with inadequate brakes is a worrying thing?

If you do hit someone or cause them to be hurt in some way then you will discover that uninsured thing.

If the bicycle is modified and is not road-legal, that's risky for everyone.

1500W rear hub motor, is both very powerful and heavy, that will be the cause. If your bike was legal, eg. 250w you wouldn't see that kind of wear.

I use Schwalbe big apple plus 26x2.4 on my mid drive TSDZ2 250w bike, and 3,000km rear tire hardly worn.
Not sure if you can get the plus version anymore.

Schwalbe have specific ebike tires, so go look them up, the marathon is not an ebike tire, a human is not going to go over 500w, usually well under 200w sustained.
