2024 <10,000 km Club
Postby grt046 » Tue Jan 02, 2024 3:12 pm
While still off the bike at the moment hope to be back pedalling around mid January.
I am in for 8,300 km and 52,000 elevation plus a few local climbs, Mt Nebo, Mt Coot-tha, Mt Mee and Clear Mountain as goals for 2024.

I have looked at where I got to in years past. It's a picture of steep decline for the last 3. Now, since I want to lose 10Kg but no give up cake, grog or smokes the record indicates that I need to ride 6000 km this year.
And avoid climbing whenever possible. Hell, I'm 66, and if I don't want to I don't have to.
We'll see how we go.

Let's hope I can keep the motivation up for another 51 weeks.
2024 goal is 8000km.

So I'll go for 5,000 this year. I reckon I can do that with rides during the week while not working.

Doc has given me a clearance to start easy recovery rides this week after 3 months off the bike so hopefully Feb is better.

40km ahead of schedule. Only 7281 to go.
Not too bad considering the number of rainy days.

28km loop to Newport return (Redcliffe Peninsula) with an early start. It is great to be back and the roads were nice and clean after all the rain over the last 3 days.

I also want that hour to mainly be MTB as I just upgraded from a hardtail to dual suspension.

DavidS ..... I would have thought that retirement would provide better opportunity to ride just for enjoyment say 3 or 4 days a week. You certainly have the equipment (Ti and Campag just waiting)
I am coming up to 20 years in retirement and still loving it.

Sounds good, but the discipline of riding when not commuting, which has been >90% of my cycling for years, will have to be good. My plan is maybe 2 or 3 50KM rides each week. I can ride to Mordialloc and back on Beach Rd and that's about 45KMs, so just add a little.grt046 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 01, 2024 3:54 pmMuch better start to Feb for me with a 48km roll around the Redcliffe Peninsula. Nice sunny day for a change.

Once you establish a habit it is easy and you miss it if for some reason you miss a week or so through illness or injury (I have just had 3 months off and really suffered)DavidS wrote: ↑Thu Feb 01, 2024 7:46 pm

My week is normally:
Monday ..... Golf 9 holes very non competitive with a group of mates
Tuesday ....... 40 - 50km early start and back home for breakfast (solo)
Thursday ....... 50 - 70km ride with group of mainly retirees (Sometimes 100km if preparing for a charity ride)
Saturday ....... 60 - 70 km Club Recreational Group ride
Sunday ..... occasional social easy paced 40 - 50km ride
I am lucky to live 10km from the coast (Redcliffe Peninsula) so lovely location to ride or head west a similar distance if it is hills that you want. Summer rides normally start at 0500 - 0600 ..... a little later in winter weather permitting as I am a dry weather rider.
