Bottom Bracket

Postby Ballmead » Thu Jan 04, 2024 6:49 am

I'm changing the crankset on my bike from 1x GRX to 105.
The current Ultegra BB has around 1500klms on it and seems to be in good condition.
Do I need to change it after 1500klms or am I good to go?
How many klms do they usually last?

Much, much longer than that - just leave it in. No point changing it out unless it's causing any noise.

I kill things. Tyres, derailleurs, framesets, shifter cables, chains and cassettes. Kill them very well and very quickly.

My current Ultegra bottom bracket has 20,000km on it without an issue. I'll replace it when I upgrade the crankset but that's just because they're cheap and I'll be there.

I wouldn't worry.

Only change it if it's noisy or doesn't feel smooth.

They go for ages usually. I used to have the press fit Dura Ace bottom brackets in my Canyon and they were quite trouble free. I then went over to Kogel ceramic bottom brackets and those are decent as well.

The S5 has whatever SRAM bottom bracket it came with from new and it's still going fine at some 15,000km.

Thank you all. Looks like I'm good to go with the crank replacement.

Thank you all. Looks like I'm good to go with the crank replacement and existing BB.
