e-Bike Shipping Overseas
Postby Kevin_55 » Tue Jan 09, 2024 9:46 am
I would be interested to hear from anyone who has shipped their e-Bike into Australia from another land. I am currently in New Zealand and want to bring my e-Bike home to Melbourne with me. I had expected it to be a challenge for air freight, but I am getting push back from sea forwarders as well. Any tips or tricks from this community would be most welcome.

Couldn't you ship the bike and the battery separately ? That way the whole thing wouldn't be a "dangerous" package ? Or, potentially ship the bike (without battery) to Oz and buy a new battery from here if it was too hard or costly to ship the lithium ?

The battery will be classified as dangerous goods & well over what you will be permitted on a passenger plane. Like Andy I would suggest shipping them separately.
There are no e-bike batteries made in Australia, they are all shipped here one way or another. Talk to someone who specialises in dangerous goods, eg TNT

Might be cheaper to sell the battery in NZ and buy another here, or even sell the whole bike there and replace it here ?

I met a bloke on a local bike path who had a retro fit with a removable down tube battery from the same supplier as me, Rev Bikes in Nunawading Vic 3131.
He had taken his bike to and from England without the battery and Rev Bikes had sold him a battery to be delivered to his friends home in England and he left the battery there when he returned to OZ.
