26inch tyres for commuting
Postby jonsio » Tue Feb 27, 2024 1:51 pm
I am in the process of converting an old Shogun Trailbreaker to single speed for commuting. Looking for some decent budget tyres ideal for commuting on roads and paths. Struggled to find a lot of reviews for these types of tyres so thought I’d ask the question here. After a tyre that won’t break the bank.

I commuted on a Trailbreaker for many years and used Schwalbe Marathon Plus as wanted to minimise time spent with punctures. But these days would be looking for tubeless solution.

26s im assuming?
I ran Holy Rollers in a 2.4 for a while, but maybe overkill!
Big apples rolled well, I ran them in a 2.35 on an older cannondale hardtail.
Guess also depends on what you consider breaking the bank!

Continental Contact Urbans. Can be hard to find but I got a few on Ali Express for about 2/3 the price others were charging.
If it's a trailbreaker than it should take the wide tyres. They are comfortable and fast and so far no p*nctures in rides that have required Marathon Plus levels of protection.
