Huge rides today!

1k son to school

1k home

1k pick-up son

1k home

4 whole kilometres.

But not without excitement - survived the school drop off zone - 4WDs, distracted parents, kids opening car doors etc. You seriously need to pay attention.

And no punctures today at the park rotunda - much easier to smash your stubby than walk the two metres and back to the bin. Gets much worse after hot nights - not just dropped stubbies smashed over a wide distance

I thought you weren't allowed to ride on this road.

How do you go with all the traffic? When I drive it, seems like evey knob is out and about.

Sorry, bit lazy in posting, by M7 I meant the cyclepath next to it.

There are some whole threads about the M7, with maps. I start at the North/East end at Old Windsor Rd at Kings Langley and ride West/South. I have 8k to get to the start so my usual ride is to the Great Western Highway, about 50k return. Have only been riding since late August, my longest ride has been 90k, which I think almost got me to the other end, down past Liverpool. It is all traffic and intersection free.

Looking back through a few of the posts, it looks like most ride on, or alongside, some pretty busy roads. How do you deal with the smog, fumes and exhausts ?
After living in beautiful Port Macquarie for 20 years, I couldn't go back to living in the 'big smoke'. You can't beat cycling along the coast or river at 5.30am and seeing the sun come up over the horizon.
I saw a TV show one time that compared the lungs of a city-dweller to those of a rural person. Both were non-smokers, but there was a huge difference in the colour and health of the lungs.
Mind you, we have to deal with our own local issues such as rural roads, very few cycleways, livestock, snakes, koalas etc.

Had a RDO yesterday specifically for a bike ride :D. So rolled out of the house at 5am and headed north along the Old Pacific Hwy to Woy Woy. Got to Woy Woy at about 9am. After catching up with a few people I headed back via the ferry to Palm Beach and continued along the Northern Beaches to Manly and across the Spit Bridge and then over the Harbour Bridge home. A really nice start to the week, beats being at work on a Monday  Total ks for the day were 165km.

Today was a nice relaxing commute to work (9km each way).

First day of being 46, just recovering from bronchitis, been off bike for close on 3 weeks. Decided to ride to work, only about 16.5km from Thornleigh to Macquarie Park. Made it, exhausted. Faded fast on ride home, compounded by two flats! (Beloved had to come and rescue me once I ran out of tubes.) Well, here's hoping the next ride is better!

Nowhere, the MTB got a full strip and service. I hope sweat drops don't degrade bearing grease...

Just around and around Casey Fields criterium again this morning as most mornings.

Was going to do 35km same as yesterday morning, but unfortunately after 22km and pushing it a bit harder for just two laps, my heart rate jumped from 145 to 199 and that is a little bit too high for an old codger like me and I gave it away.

Bummer, few more issues to work out with my doctor.

North Lake (Kardinya) up to the freeway then north to the city. 2 cups of tea at the jetty with feet up watching breeze on Perth water then 22km back into a 25km headwind..bracing. So 44km in 1 hour 50, no worries and no sweat even if it was 30+. Was amazed that ALL commuters passed me doing 25-30kph in said wind, doesn't anyone take a steady trundle to and from work these days? I mean I gotta find someone somewhere I can go faster than. Still after 6 bouts pneumonia, a massive pulmonary embolism and being told by lung specialists that there was no possible cure for my asthma, life is very, very good indeed at 25kph on a nice hot arvo.
My target..100km in 4 hours.
