Frames on offer

Postby europa » Wed Aug 22, 2007 1:50 pm

I was down at JT Cycles on Brighton Rd today, checking out some frames they have there. There are two Cinnelli road frames - 23" and 21" seat tubes and vertical drop outs. They look in quite good nick and have vertical dropouts. Both going for $200.

They've also got two track frames, one probably a 21" and the other a bit smaller again. Unbranded but with Columbus tubing stickers on them. Good nick. Both going for $80.

Any one of them would be a good buy, but too small for me at 6' tall.

Just to add to Richards post a little more.

Of the two Cinelli's, one is a "Unica" (nice metallic lime green), and is made with Columbus Brain tubing. The other is a "Proxima" (pastel orange colour), and is made with Columbus Thron tubing.

Both frames have threaded 1" forks that need a quill stem.

Both appear to be new, and never built into a full bike.

Good luck

Nah, you don't have to use downtube shifters - that's where you mount the barrel adjusters for your STi setup.

Maybe your bike doesn't have them.

Here's a really bad photo of them on mine - red arrow tells the story.

It's an adjusting screw on the gearshift cable and they mount on the old downtube shifter mounts.

Oh, OK. Would need to have a better pic or see it first hand to fully understand, but can sort of visualise the process.

Bugger. I'd thought I'd gotten over that crazy idea ....

Serves me right for trying to give you other crazy ideas .....

I'll check, but I don't think so. Only those crappy Trek's have them :P

I've seen the frames - and didn't think the scratching was too bad. If you're interested, I'd have to go back and have a real good look, but it was only the size that put me off.

How bad would you consider the scratches on the Unica?
The damage seems to be more of the clear coat being chipped. I think the Unica is the better condition of the two.

Mind you, the paint chips make it more authentic - partially ages the frame

How much do you reckon is a fair price for shipping to Brisbane? Do you think they might be open to offers? They weren't firm on it but said "around $100." What are your thoughts on it all?

Thanks for the replies.
Most ebay sellers talk about $50 or there abouts don't they?

I gather you've spoken to the shop?

Look, I'll leave you and Michael to squabble over the frames between you.

MG, if you decide to buy the frame and JT's postage is stupid, it's not hard for me to physically buy the frame and then post it Qld once you've worked out how you want it shipped.

Is the $100 reagrding the frame price, or the shipping price ?

As per Richards post, have you spoken to the shop ?

PM me if you want any info, or post it here. Between Richard & myself, we'll be able to help you out

Cheers

Well..........

Out of the 4 frames (2 x Cinelli and 2 x Track frames) that I first spied some time ago, there is now only 1 smallish track frame left.

One of the Cinelli's went up North to MountGower whilst he waited for the Italians to get their fingers out and sort out his beloved Tommasini, Europa grabbed the larger of the two track frames for his son, and I finally relented and grabbed the remaining Cinelli Proxima Trophy.

Managed to get it for $150 as well, rather than the $200 he initially wanted. :D :D :D :D :D :D

The plan is to do up the frame as my long distance/weekend ride, whilst the Tourmalet becomes the weekday bike.

The componentry will be either Ultegra or DuraAce sdepending on what becomes available at the right price and time, and will probably be 9sp, as it matches what I have with the Tourmalet (wheel swaps) - already have a wheelset to use.

Now let the fun begin !!!!

Good pick up, she's a nice frame and had she been a bit bigger, she would have been in my workshop :D

The componentry surely will be Campag anything.........something.
Cinelli......Shimano. Sorry, but that does not compute.

Clickety click aint no match for snappety snap.
It's all right - he's seen the like and she'll be fixed

I had quite a good discussion with a "Campag Retailer" (most of the bikes in the shop are either Pinarello or Orbea, and the key Mechanic there is a Campag fan.

For me, there are two key issues :

1. I have a set of Mavic Aksim wheels set up for 9sp Shimano
2. As much as I played in the shops and forgot all about the really loud ratchet, I find myself not being a fan of the thumb changer that is part of the Campag setup.

I haven't ridden a Campag bike, and maybe I need to, but whilst I can get a used Veloce groupset at a good price (tbc), the additional costs of getting the wheels reworked, or a new wheelset make the option look not as appealing in terms of cost.

I can hear the moans of the italia-o-philes as they wonder what is wrong with that moron .....

On another note, have sent a request to Cinelli seeing if they can offer some info on the frame and provide a manufacturing date etc.

Campy is good for you blokes with thumbs long enough to reach the trigger from the drops...

MountGower wrote:I like the hoods on Campag. Short and flat. Easy reach. The thumb thing freaked me out as I didn't realise it would be like that. 5 minutes later I was sold because of the comfort of riding on the flat hoods. I now like the thumb switches.

At the end of the day I also like Shimano. The Shimano stuff I have is great. Good luck building it up.
The hoods felt OK, but I couldn't see how I could push the lever down whilst ion the hoods, but on the fwd part of the drops was OK.

There are some very good points about Campag, but the wheel issue is holding me back to be honest.

The other thing, is that i already have a bike with 9sp Shimano, so to have a twin for emergency spare will be good.
