Competition: Black Cat Award (flat tyres) 2008
Postby mikesbytes » Mon Dec 31, 2007 7:42 pm
Rules (don't you hate them)
1. You have to have actually ridden the bike since the tyre was replaced to
be awarded a point
2. It has to be a flat to your bike, fixing someone elses flat doesn't count
3. Flat must of occurred between January 1st 2008 and December 31st 2008 inclusive
4. Anything I didn't think of
Jerseys
Yellow Jersey (black cat) - The person with the most flats. In the event of 2 or more riders having the same number of flats, the rider who got to that score first holds the jersey.
Pokadot Jersey (most difficult)- The rider who has suffered the most inconvenience by the flat. Riders will have to plead their case as this award is subjective.
White Jersey (beginner) - the most recent rider to get a flat tyre. Any rider who registered a flat in the 2007 competition is not eligible http://bicycles.net.au/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2031 Therefor the following riders are not eligible;
531db, alchemist, ApollloMTB, Aushiker, beauyboy, benj, black4tress, Cambo, crog, cyclelogical, daacha, europa, gsxrboy, Hotdog, inaminit, Kalgrm, Kev365428, KillerHeadWind, LuckyPierre, lukas, matt_v, McPete, Megan, MichaelB, Mikeg, mikesbytes, MJF, mr888, Mulger_bill, needsapush, nimm, rdp_au, rider06, sandman, senator52, stated, stevos, stryker84, toolonglegs, Triple_B, Tuco, X-wing,
Green Jersey (most convenient flat) - The rider who incurred the flat that caused the least inconvenience. Riders will have to plead their case as this award is subjective.
Red Number (most aggressive) - The rider who occurred the most flats in a single calandar week, that been Monday thru Sunday. In the event of 2 or more riders having the same number of flats, the rider who got to that score first holds the jersey. Rider will need to specifically notify as the judge has buckleys of figuring this one out by themselves.
The black jersey (last) - The rider with the least amount of flats. In the event of 2 or more riders having the same number of flats, the rider who got to that score first holds the jersey.
Points Jersey - The rider who has the best post in this thread. We shall see
New Format - hey this is the internet, you need to do it differently each time, just for the sake of doing it.

OK, no one allowed to get more than 99 flats, otherwise my format stuffed.
May the puncture gods not be with you

Not sure if this should count, as it was my old beater and not my main bike, and it happened in my driveway.
Just dragged the old bike out to run across to the shops, noticed the tyre pressues were a tad low so I pulled the pump out, did the rear, then as I was topping up the front I hear PPPppsssssssssssssssssssssssssssss from the rear tyre. Holed at the base of the valve

Sounds good enough to me. Shall chalk it up and review if any protests are received (just like F1 racing, the winner is decided in the court rooms)NotTim wrote:Possible +1 for me

+1 for me. Glass fragment in the rear tyre on my commute this morning along the M5. First time I've had a flat going to/from work. Also the first time I've had to change a tube in the dark.
An interesting experience.

In the dark. At this point that gives you a jersey (and one for the best story so far, sure it won't last)Kev365428 wrote:I hope Tim's one counts, 'cause I don't want to be the first post on here.

I was starting to get the opinion that my new rims are cursed, 3 flats on them in 4 days, but I've now figured out that the rim tape they sold me with them was useless, I've replaced it with something a bit more solid and did 45km with no issues today.

Do you mean +2 to your existing total taking you to 3?NotTim wrote:+2 more for me, it would be +3 but the first one was sunday so it doesn't count for 2008

Is the problem actually a puncture? Ie have you had to change the tube?winona_rider wrote:just before xmas we had our xmas drinks after work which meant i got absolutely wasted and consequently left my bike at the office over the xmas break. So I came into work on wednesday to pick it up and the back tyre had gone flat. there was a tiny bit of air left in it so i figured it was just a small leak so i wheeled it about 15 blocks to the valley - the closest servo on my way home. does that count? (it was raining too)

This was on my new Trek 4300Disc MTB and with Thorn resistant tubes! (The road bike was left at home.) I did 12 x 20km rides (i.e. before the kids woke and before it hit 40C!) and had to pull out about 7 - 10 thorns from the tyres after each ride so the tubes did a good job!
Also, changing a tube on a MTB is bliss compared to my roadbike!
Cheers,
Gary

The issue is which one. There are those highly puncture resistant tyres but aren't as grippy. Then there are those high performance tyres with what I consider to be good enough puncture resistant belt built-in eg. Conti GP4000, Michelin ProRace2 etc.
