It would be a good rule change, it just has to be handled correctly, ie past records put in a different category.ldrcycles wrote:There's been some fireworks on the UMCA facebook page the last couple of days. Supposedly Searvogel is now a member of the UMCA board, and is involved with rumoured changes to the HAMR rules to prohibit drafting (which would be a huge conflict of interest surely).

I'd be suggesting a category of distance travelled on unique roads.

I'd be surprised if Alicia sees out the year - it has got to be hard to keep motivated knowing that you are well off the pace for the record. For a minute I thought she was going to have a go at equaling Ossie Nicholson's 1939 record of consecutive 100 mile days, but no. It seems Coker has missed her chance of upping the record to 150miles a day, with one day of just 55miles.BenGr wrote:I did notice that Alicia's Facebook page has changed from year record to 100mile a day for a year.
As for drafting, how could you police a ban & how is it any worse than other forms of aerodynamic advantage such as recumbents ? I would have thought drug testing riders would be more likely.
Anything you can do, I can do slower

Policing drafting wouldn't be too hard, well at least wasting a year of your life if found out should be a good deterent.
I think drafting is different in that other forms of aerodynamic gains are not able to be significantly increased by money whereas someone could pay people to pull for them the entire year and gain a huge amount.

Drafting was an accepted part of the record up to and including Tommy Godwin, so i see no reason why it should be changed. I get what you're saying about the money side of it but let's face it, if you can completely sacrifice a year out of your life, arranging some people to ride in front of you for a bit is no big deal.
