This is about equality of opportunity for normal people.
QFT. Normalisation.

Sure, I can do steps. But could my 70-something dad with a hybrid or e-bike? No chance. My 12 year old and her reasonably up to date medium mountain bike? Nup. My partner on any bike? No. My work colleauge and his bad knee? No. So far only 20% of my sample set could use it. Hardly fair.

I'm not trying to be a dick here. But it worries me that the cycling side of the Harbour Bridge will be turned into a total mess with all these different usages that are being raised in this stairs discussion.
I suspect there won't be huge number of kids or trailers using the bridge, particularly at peak commuter times or early morning training times and if I'm correct it shouldn't be too much of an issue from that viewpoint. What could possibly have a significant increase is the number of commuter riders so you could end up being stuck behind people doing 20kph uphill but as you know its not that far, way better than being stuck in a car at peak period
If the R-1 rule is broken, what happens to N+1?

Weekends, likely to be different. And during morning peak, parents dropping kids to daycare before heading to the office. I used to see a couple of mums down around 201 Sussex St with cargo bikes packed full of kids when I worked down that way. No way that could happen for mums travelling from from north of the bridge.

For anyone who gave feedback via the web pages listed earlier, this response seems to have come back on 16 August 2021. I missed this cause I used my generic/spam/form filling email and only recently caught up with that account:
TfNSW email wrote: Sydney Harbour Bridge Cycleway North Access Project - Preferred option selected
Between 7 and 28 June 2021, Transport for NSW sought community feedback on two options for a cycle ramp at the northern end of the Sydney Harbour Bridge cycleway.

During the public display period, we received around 3000 survey responses and submissions. Thank you to everyone who took the time to share your views on the two options.

While a wide range of views were put forward, there was clear and overwhelming support for a ramp, and for the linear ramp in particular, from a majority of respondents.

We have published a consultation report detailing the feedback we received, which you can view here.

Linear option selected
In response to community feedback, Transport for NSW will proceed with the linear ramp option.

We are committed to making sure the ramp design respects the heritage of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the significance of this location and makes a positive contribution to the local area.

So, for that reason, we will soon start a competitive design process to select a leading architectural team with heritage and Connecting with Country expertise, to design a ramp of the highest calibre.

Later this year, the community will have a chance to comment on three shortlisted ramp designs before we select a winning design that will proceed to the planning approval stage. We will also seek feedback on plans for the Alfred Street cycle path and the Lavender Street roundabout.
Didn't hear from Jilly in response...oddly...

I think she has gone to ground a little based on the lack of action on the FB page she and her daughter usually police heavily. I doubt a reply will be forthcoming, so won't waste e-time on Mayor Gibson, except on my occasional rides past the council chambers where I continue to deliver my traditional salute. Even though I am now outside the North Sydney council area, I am watching and hoping she gets binned. Her recent behaviour on this matter, and a few others, really is extraordinary.

A bit of bicycle riding expertise might be handy too, no, silly me?

I can confirm that things are continuing to move forward in a promising way. Can't say more than that at the moment as it was off the record.

Be patient, and continue to engage with local politicians constructively. :)

Few changes to North Sydney council - reduced from 3 wards to 2, mayor is indirectly elected. She looks certain to be elected to council, no idea about mayor

And the designs:

Should be finished by 2030 or 2040, if it doesn’t get stopped.

The car parking is missing in those photos, that's probably the real concern of the local residents

These elected Councillors vote for the Mayor and Deputy Mayor positions.

It seems that Jilly Gibson could be voted in again provided she has the votes of Labor and/or Sustainably Australia Party Councillors.
What a shame. But at least the state level dealings will mean JG doesn't have a platform to stand on against the ramp.

I downloaded the ramp session.

Ye Gods there's some Olympic level design wankery in some of the presentations!

I thought Civille had some decent ideas. I wasn't sure about the big curve on their ramp that goes out almost to the street but they had sensible reasons why: protection for people at the crosswalk and less shade over the park.

I also liked the fact they put overtaking room in on the climb.

For anyone playing along at home, Jilly Gibson is no longer Mayor.

Zoe Baker is the new Mayor.

Gibson was very anti-ramp, anti-infrastructure, to the point of trickery to convince people she wasn't. That was seen through, called out, then deleted by her and her daughter on a few local FB pages to prevent her image being tarnished.

North Sydney Council are now hiring for a position to manage the implementation of active travel infrastructure. Unfortunately the previous incumbent was, it seems, bullied out of his role by the previous mayor among others. A pity, he did a huge amount of really good work.
