My normal bifocal specs have transition lenses. Go very dark in the wind and sun.

Better protection for your eyes, cycling glasses offer more protection by surrounding your eyes, so stuff like debris, insects (or in my case a small bird) hits your cycling glasses and does not find the gap between regular glasses and your face.

Better peripheral vision, cycling glasses have curved lenses unlike flat regular glass so you can see what is going on.

The right cycling glasses for your face do not change position when you move around. It took a few attempts to find the right cycling glasses for my face. My test is TT bike 40kph , drop head to read my garmin, the wrong glasses will slide done my nose (my regular glasses close to losing them). My cycling glasses don't budge.

If you can't read your cycle computer or smart phone GPS while riding you probably need reading glasses or bi focal's anyway.

I have astigmatism as well as requiring bi focals.

I have two sets of regular transition bifocals spectacles (one for emergency)
One set of prescription spectacles especially setup for computer screen - eye to screen focal length.
Another set of prescription spectacles with darkened lenses for driving (Short sight only).

I have some yellow clipons for low light, fog and rain scenarios. These are invaluable. If you wear specs I highly recommend these.

It's a pain getting older and having compromised vision.
Another set of specialized specs might stretch the budget.

I'll go and see my spectacle man to see if wraparound bicycle friendly bifocal transitions are available.

F.W.I.W. Australia has some very harsh light and U.V. conditions. Eye specialists recommend a good set of sunnies when ever you are out of doors. This includes young kids.

Getting old and losing your vision is a pain.

As mine has been a gradual process, you get to try various combinations

I have a set of regular lightweight multifocal transition lenses, which are good for most things except for riding, the move around and also fog up on early morning rides.

Until recently I had a pair of polarised single vision cycling sunglasses, until I destroyed them sliding down the road on my face. Far better for driving than my regular glasses too. But I cover about 3 times the distance riding than driving so bias is definitely riding.

About to get a pair of cycling glasses with multifocal transition lenses. That way I don't have to carry my regular glasses, if I need to use my phone or fix a puncture. They will also become my backup to my regular pair (instead of the 5 year old pair of glasses) and see if I need single vision or multifocal for my second pair of cycling glasses, which will be a dark polarised pair for riding in full sun.

So I will end up with three pairs:
1 regular lightweight multifocal transition lenses which next year will probably be replaced will clear multifocal lenses for indoor use.
2. cycling glasses with multifocal transition lenses, for general outdoor use and riding (and driving) in low to moderate light and backup for 1
3. dark polarised cycling glasses for riding (and driving) in full sun

I have some multi-focals that I use (from a BNA review) and they are great, but with winter coming quick, I need some photochromic bifocals, and it seems that there are basically 2 versions available, apart from the dodgy versions via Ali Express.

The two readily available options are either Rudy Project Rydon Readers or the BZ Optics ones. The BZ are about $60 cheaper than the RP's and availability is better.

Not much on here re either, but any recent experiences with either of these two or any others ?

If your distance vision is fine ( unlike mine) then also check out your local “hi-viz” shop.

Cheers found them and now A$90, but the +2.0 are OoS.

Locally they are $130 for the same thing

Tifosi also do bi-focal reader transition sports glasses. I bought some locally a few years back, and they've been fine. I can't remember where I got them, though? Some specialist online sports glasses place, from memory.
